Straughn Garners Sixteenth Double-Double Of Season In Victory Over Medgar Evers

New York - The City College of New York defeated Medgar Evers College by a score of 68-55 Friday night.

Ashley Straughn (Freeport, NY) recorded her sixteenth double-double for the Beavers, as she recorded 23 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Taryn VanEsselstyn (Chatham, MA) racked up yet another double-double, her eight of the season, as she scored 13 points while grabbing 12 rebounds. Alexis Billups (Chester, NY) and Donika Rexhepi (White Plains, NY) contributed 11 and 10 points in their team’s victory, while Rynae Rasley (Arizona) added 4 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and a game high 6 assists.

Shakimba Pierre and Tifanny Thompson were the leading scorers for Medgar as they scored 19 and 18 points respectively. Thompson also finished the game with a doube-double as she grabbed 13 rebounds.

With the win, CCNY improves to 9-14 (5-7 CUNYAC) in the season, while Medgar drops to 7-15 (2-10 CUNYAC).

Baseball

The freshman played in all five games for the Beavers this week, batting an even .500. His 9-for-18 effort included six runs scored, two doubles, an RBI, a walk, and three stolen bases, as he improved his season average to .370.

Women's Indoor Track and Field

The junior had a solid meet at the Danny Curran Invitational. She finished 27th in the long jump with a distance of 4.35 meters and followed it up with her best performance of the meet, finishing 10th in the triple jump with a distance of 9.88 meters.
