New York, NY – The women’s basketball team suffered a heartbreaking loss yesterday at the Hunter College Sports Complex. It was a tragic loss that without a doubt will become the motivation for next season’s push to go further in the playoffs.
The Lady Beavers fell short in their bid for the CUNY Conference title yesterday against rival Hunter College by a score of 57-55. Despite being down 10 points in the end of the first half, the women’s team had an opportunity to tie the match with only a few seconds left in the game. Sophomore Guard
Tai-Danae Bradley (Richmond, VA) took advantage of the opportunity and hit a clutch three-point bucket with only one tick left (55-55). As the crowd erupted, City College
was unexpectedly called for a foul right after the in-bound. Hunter’s Branch El Vielot knocked down both free throws, winning the game 57-55.
Freshman Forward
Taryn VanEsselstyn (Chatham, MA) led the Lady Beavers with 21 points, 12 rebounds and 2 assists. In spite of limited playing time due to foul trouble, Junior Center
Ashley Straughn (Freeport, NY) managed to snatch match-high 15 rebounds while adding 11 points and 3 blocks. Sophomore Guard
Donika Rexhepi (White Plains, NY) scored 6 points, grabbing 6 rebounds and collecting 2 steals.
Senior Guard
Rynae Rasley's (Arizona) hard working ethics, leadership and contribution in the game will be surely missed by the young team next year as they look to go further in the CUNY Playoffs.
