New York, NY – The #5 seed men’s volleyball team fell to #4 York College last night in a four set CUNYAC Quarter Finals thriller (30-24, 27-30, 28-30, 30-19).  It was a season ending loss that the young team will surely keep in mind throughout the off-season.

The Beavers took the first set with ease and was en route to take the second when Sophomore Middle Blocker Johnson Ho (Glen Cove, NY) was taken out due to a minor injury.  The young team was unable to pull together and inevitably lost momentum.  The Cardinals (York College) took advantage of Ho’s absence and dominated the front row attack and blocking.  CCNY battled tough throughout the match but was unable to make a comeback.

“I’m proud of my guys, the guys will learn and get better from this experience.”  Coach Palatulan said. “Next Year!”

Sophomore Setter Jonathan Aguirre (Corona, NY) led the Beavers with 37 assists and team high 11 digs.  Freshman Nick Siriban (East Meadow, NY) had 17 kills (match high), 6 digs, 3 total blocks and 2 aces.  Freshman Outside Hitter Matthew Ng (Bayside, NY) also had a good night with 14 kills 6 digs and 1 block assists.

Bryan Francisco and Bryan Williams led the Cardinals with 13 kills and 8 digs each.

The young men’s volleyball team will look to redeem themselves next year.
