FLEMINGTON, NJ  -  The City College of New York baseball team (3-1) swept a doubleheader 15-1 and 11-9 from host Yeshiva University (0-2) on Sunday at Diamond Nation in Flemington, NJ.

In game 1, Willis Fernandez (New York, NY) (4-5, 3 RBI, 2B, 3B, HR, SB) led off the game for the Beavers with a long home run to LF and the Beavers never looked back.  In the game, Fernandez hit for the cycle collecting 3 RBIs in the process.

Offensively, other than Fernandez, Raymie Fernandez (New York, NY) (4-5, 3 RBI, 3 2B, 3B), Derek Faucher (Bradford, PA)(3-4, 3 RBI, HR), Reuben Angeles (New York, NY) (3-4, RBI, 2B) and Michael Dominguez (Brooklyn, NY) (1-4, HR) all had stellar games.

On the mound Joel Jimenez (New York, NY)(5 IP, 7K, 0BB, 0ER) kept the Maccabees in check through the first 5 innings and didn’t surrender a hit until there was one out in the 5th for his 1st college win.

Game 2 started much in the same fashion for the Beavers.  Fernandez (3-5, RBI 2 3 SB) led off with a hard hit 2B, moved to third on a SAC bunt from Andrew Romanella (Allentown, NJ)(1-3, SAC BUNT, SAC FLY, 2 RBI) and scored on a Ruben Angeles (0-3, 2 SAC FLY, 2 RBI) SAC fly.

The Maccabees however would answer in the bottom of the 1st against Beavers starter Ruben Angeles.  With 2 Outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd Elie Baratz tripled home 2 runs to give Yeshiva a 2-1 lead going to the 3rd.

The Beavers bounced back in the 2nd tacking 6 runs started by a triple off the bat of Daniel Perez (New York, NY) (1-3, 3B).

The Maccabees pulled within a run in the 4th with the score 8-7 but never got any closer as the Beavers put up 3 runs in the 5th capitalizing on several Yeshiva miscues and  getting an RBI double from Andrew Romanella.

The Beavers bullpen sealed the deal getting an inning from winning pitcher Taylor Schomann (Clinton Corners, NY), two and a third from Chris Torres, and the eventual save from Willis Fernandez.

The Beavers will be back in action on Friday, March 12 when the travel to Arcadia University for a single game.  On Saturday, March 13th CCNY opens their home schedule with a DH against SUNY Purchase at Randall’s Island (Field 53) starting at 1pm.
