Sunday Box Score Game 2

BROOKLYN, NY – CCNY Baseball took two of the three games from Lehman this weekend.  The Beavers downed Lehman Saturday night by a score of 4-3 at South Field on Lehman’s campus.  The teams split a doubleheader at MCU Park in Brooklyn the following day.  Lehman took the first game by a score of 6-3 but CCNY staged a late inning comeback in game 2 and won the game by a run, 4-3.

Junior Reuben Angeles (New York, NY) headlined Saturday’s away game, striking out 15, allowing three runs only two of which were earned.  Angeles’ complete game was his second of the week, also going the distance against Baruch on Monday in the Beavers’ 16-4 victory.  The New York native also had a solid offensive performance against Baruch with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Fresh off of a six RBI performance against Baruch on Monday, Junior Michael Dominguez (Brooklyn, NY) once again led the attack for the Beavers Saturday night with two hits and an RBI.  Seniors Pavel Cruz (New York, NY), Raymie Fernandez (New York, NY) and Sophomore Daniel Perez (New York, NY) each contributed an RBI in the win.

Sunday’s opener was a different story however.  With the scored tied after 3 innings, the Lightning put up a 4 spot in the top of the fourth.  Despite scoring a run in the bottom of the frame, the Beavers ultimately were unable to recover.

Senior Derek Faucher (Bradford, PA) was responsible for all three runs scored by the Beavers, two of which came on a homerun to left field.  Rookie Andrew Mulvey (College Point, NY) (1-4) was the hard luck loser for the Beavers.

The Beavers would rebound in the second game.  Down by two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, Joel Jimenez (New York, NY) and Pat Barry (Bellerose Terrace, NY) had consecutive hits setting the stage for rookie Andrew Romanella (Allentown, NJ).  Romanella’s ground ball to 2B brought home Jimenez and advanced Barry to third and eventually come home from a Raymie Fernandez (New York, NY) double off the top of the left center field wall.  The senior created the winning run after his double.  Fernandez advanced to 3B on a breaking ball in the dirt and eventually scored on another passed ball.  Sophomore Taylor Schomann (Clinton Corners, NY) showed a great deal of poise despite a solid hitting line up for Lehman.  Schomann earned the win, while closer Willis Fernandez (New York, NY) notched his fourth save of the season.  The senior was called upon in the 6th inning for his 1st 2-inning save of the year, ending any comeback hopes for the Lightning.

The Beavers will face Baruch tomorrow in a doubleheader at American Legion Field in Brooklyn; game 1 starts at 2:30pm.
