BROOKLYN, NY – After field issues forced the two teams to postpone their scheduled doubleheader on April 3rd the CCNY Beavers and Baruch Bearcats were able to play their CUNYAC games yesterday at American Legion Field in Brooklyn, NY.  CCNY took the first game, shutting out Baruch 7-0 but the Beavers dropped the second game to the Bearcats, 8-4.

Senior Willis Fernandez led the charge in the first game for the Beavers, going 3-4 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs.  Current CUNYAC Pitcher of The Week Reuben Angeles contributed a  two-run shot in the second inning.  Leadoff hitter and rookie Andrew Romanella had another stellar game, scoring three runs while going 2-3.  Freshman Henry Loehrke (2-1) held the Bearcats scoreless throwing a complete game 8-hit shutout. The shutout was the 1st of Loehrke’s career.

The second game was decided by one bad inning for the Beavers, as they allowed seven runs in the top of the sixth inning.  Down 8-1, CCNY’s comeback hopes were dashed by the strong pitching of Baruch starter, Dave Chestnut who threw his own complete game.

Despite the loss, Angeles remained consistent at the plate, going 3-4, scoring a run, and knocking in 2.  Sophomore Joel Jimenez (2-3) pitched well in the loss.

CCNY's record remains in .500 (11-11, 4-2 CUNYAC).  Baruch's record is currently 8-11 (3-3 CUNYAC).

The Beavers will play Arcadia this afternoon at the MCU Field in Brooklyn.  The game is scheduled for a 4 PM start.
