New York, NY – No. 5 CCNY will face no. 4 Baruch College in the quarterfinal Round of the CUNYAC Tournament. The match will be played on Saturday, May 1st at York College starting at 11:00 am. The winner will take on the winner of the no. 1 CSI/ no. 8 Lehman College match. Both the Semifinal round and the Final game will be held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY on May 4 and May 6, respectively.
CCNY holds a record of 8-5 (4-4 CUNYAC) while Baruch stands at 6-5 (5-3 CUNYAC). To earn the 5th seed the Beavers defeated CSI by a score of 6-3, earning them their only loss of the season.
Steven Tran (Bronx, NY) and
Vinicio Haro (Long Island City, NY) carry the team in doubles with a record of 6-2 this season. Freshman
Alexander Jonsson (New York, NY) has had a great initiation winning eight of his nine singles matches for the Beavers. Jonsson, who was named Rookie of the Week, on April 19, is followed by another freshman standout
Asaf Breier (Tel Aviv, Israel), who usually fills in the no. 2 spot in singles. He has won six of his ten matches this season and was recently chosen as the final CUNYAC Rookie of the Week selection (April 26).
During the regular season the Beavers were defeated by Baruch College with a score of 5-4. The Beavers look to upset Baruch in the quarterfinal round of the CUNYAC Tournament to climb their way up to Championship Day.
