VALHALLA, NY – The CCNY Beavers (8-9; 1-0 CUNYAC) baseball team was finally able to open their CUNYAC conference schedule Monday. The Beavers travelled to the campus of Westchester Community College and defeated the Baruch Bearcats (7-10; 2-2 CUNYAC) by a final score of 16-4. The two teams were scheduled for a DH on Saturday April 3rd, but were postponed due to field issues.
The visiting Beavers got off to a hot start scoring two runs in each of the first, fourth and fifth innings. Then put the game away with a 6 run 8th inning highlighted by a
Michael Dominguez (Brooklyn, NY) grand slam. It was Dominguez’s 2nd home run of the year. The junior from Brooklyn, NY finished the day with 6 RBI.
On the mound for the Beavers,
Reuben Angeles (New York, NY) cruised to his 2nd win of the year. Angeles allowed 4 runs on 5 hits while striking out 11 en route to the complete game victory. The Junior from New York, NY added to his day by going 3-6 with 2 2B and 3 RBI at the plate.
Offensively for the Beavers every starter collected at least one hit and
Willis Fernandez (New York, NY),
Daniel Perez (New York, NY), Angeles, Dominguez and
Pat Barry (Bellerose Terrace, NY) all had 3-hit days.
Next up for the Beavers is the make-up doubleheader with Baruch, which will be played at Smith Field in Parsippany, NJ on Friday, April 9th. Start time will be announced later today. That doubleheader will start a run of 5 CUNYAC conference games in 3 days for the Beavers.
